An overhead shower is one of the few fittings you touch every single day, so it's worth spending a few minutes thinking through the choice rather than picking whatever's cheapest at the store. The right one comes down to three things: your water pressure, your bathroom's ceiling height and layout, and how much maintenance you're willing to do.
Start with your water pressure
If your building relies on an overhead tank rather than a pressure pump, look for a shower head with a wide spray face and anti-clog silicone nozzles. A narrower, high-pressure-style head can feel disappointing under gravity-fed supply, no matter how good it looks in the box.
Round or square?
This is almost entirely aesthetic. Round heads tend to suit smaller or more classically styled bathrooms, while square or rectangular heads read as more contemporary and often pair better with larger rain-shower installations. Neither shape affects flow performance on its own — that comes down to the nozzle design and arm length.
ABS vs stainless steel body
- ABS plastic with chrome plating — lighter, more affordable, and perfectly durable for standard residential use.
- Stainless steel 304 — heavier, more resistant to long-term corrosion, and generally the better choice if your water has a higher mineral or salt content.
A quick sizing note
Measure your existing arm length before ordering a replacement head, and check whether your wall outlet uses a standard 1/2″ fitting. Most Indian bathrooms do, but it's a five-second check that saves a return trip to the store.
